5As a T-Mobile user, this phone is worth losing 3G.
By Andy Dopieralski
I purchased the Lumia 800 as a replacement for a dead HD7. I was honestly just about done with the Windows Mobile platform due to the poor experience I had with the HTC. I'm really glad I pulled the trigger on this phone. First, on T-Mobile you will lose 3G. The radio only supports AT&T's 3G band in the US. It does have support for T-Mobile's 4G frequency, but I doubt the radio supports 4G and currently the OS doesn't either, natively. So don't hold out hope for a ton of data streaming to this thing. That being said, I really am noticing how little data I actually use. Yeah, Netflix isn't great over Edge, but the phone's great WiFi radio has worked for every hotspot I've tried. My HD7 failed to connect to WiFi about 50% of the time, so this is a huge win for the Nokia.Battery life on the phone is much better than people are saying. Part is likely due to the fact that I am not using 3G, but part is owed to a bug in battery reporting in Nokia's software. So you will see lower battery than your phone really has, but the phone will still have plenty. I have done a full two day run without a charge and a couple of heavy Doodle God sessions were had.I am also not seeing any issue with the camera. In fact, the photos are much more vibrant and clear than my cousin's Focus (v1, mind you). And compared to the HD7 - which was like punishment for trying to take photos on a phone - it might as well be a DSLR. The Zeiss glass is clear and the focus is solid. Nokia doesn't pack in all of the bells and whistles in terms of camera options, but the default ones from the OS aren't horrible.GPS has been stellar. Great locks, great accuracy...Glympse is a dream to use. Like other customers have said, go with the Nokia GPS for turn by turn. The curved glass and solid body design make the phone feel really great in hand. Not cheap in the least. The phone feels solid and comfortable. The supplied gel skin case is a nice bonus and looks very good without adding much thickness at all.Pros:Design qualityBattery life (actual)FastBeautiful screen/deep blacksCall quality is excellentGreat wifi radioFast camera button responseCons:No T-Mobile band (not really a big deal, honestly)Battery indicator is incorrectThe charging port is under a weird door AND is on top of the phone, making using it while plugged in a hasslePentile Matrix (this is a con to some people, I guess. But it looks great to me)Phone will likely kill you if placed in that box from Transformers by John Turturro.Over all, a hard 5 stars. I love my phone again.

5Stunning product. (Perfect after 11501 update!)
By Linh Nguyen
UPDATE #3: I just realized I completely forgot to mention certain carrier info. I'm using the phone with AT&T in NYC. Doesn't work with their HSPA+ (yet? I believe there will be a way to enable the frequency) as far as I can tell but I get 3mbit downstream and 1mbit upstream, which is a-OK.UPDATE #2: Flashed the new 11501 firmware. Battery problem be gone! I unplugged my phone at around 1AM and left it idling. It's now 330PM and battery still at 58% with normal use from 9AM. Great job Nokia. I haven't noticed anything else other than the battery fix though. Added the last star :)-------------------------------------------------------You can love or hate Windows Phone OS, but you have to admit, Nokia sure stepped up their game in designing this beauty.HARDWARE:"Borrowed" heavily from its N9 sibling, this is one stunning phone to look at. Poly-carbonate body means very scratch resistant and none of that slippery glass surface, unlike a certain smartphone. The curves also make it very comfortable to hold, especially over a long period of time, also unlike a certain square-ish phone. Speaker and microphone neatly at the bottom while micro USB port and sim slot are at the top.The screen is amazing. The 3.7" Clearblack LCD (aka Super AMOLED or whatever you want to call it) gives you such vibrant colors that my retina-display iPhone 4 looks like a last-gen screen next to it, at least in terms of colors and contrasts. The touchscreen is very sensitive, though I've noticed it can be a bit jumpy at times. No idea if it's a software or hardware problem, or just my screen protector. The only problems I have with the designs are: a) the dedicated camera button. It's a two-stage shutter (slightly press to focus and fully to shoot) is a bit flimsy. b) the micro-USB port cover flips up and can easily be broken. And it stays this way while connected. (This has been remedied with the upcoming Lumia 900 btw.)Overall, this is the best looking phone I've seen in years. Kudos to Nokia for trying something new. And dare I say, they succeeded brilliantly.SOFTWARE:It's Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. You either love it, or hate it.Let me say that coming from Android/iOS, the first main differences I saw were the big and bold tiles, and the minimal homescreen. No gazillions of icons and folders cluttering up the screen. Everything is right there, in your face. Phone, SMS, Mail, Browser are all there and easily accessible the moment you turn on the screen. Very cool, I thought. But then, as an avid app user, I loaded up the Windows Marketplace. And boy, was I in for a huge disappointment. I'd known that this was a new ecosystem and there wouldn't be that many apps yet. But I didn't think that many of the iOS/Android apps (not games, don't care about those) that I often used wouldn't have an alternative for WP (more on this later).I was ready to return the phone. But then (yes, another turning point), I started using it. And I fell in love. The way Live Tiles work, instant updated info without loading the apps. The way "People" combines all/most of your social networks into one place. The way I stopped using my phone to do useless things and actually get stuff done. And of course, the way the Lumia 800 felt in my hands. Also, slowly, I started discovering new ways to find the apps that I want/need. Sure, I had to compromise and discarded certain apps that I don't really need, but I did manage to gather a good number of apps in the end.Windows Phone 7.5 isn't perfect. I still hate the way copy/paste is implemented. I still think the keyboard is awkward at times and too sensitive at others. I hate that there's no jailbreak/root, or as WP users call it "Interop unlock". Or how background tasking has a 9-processes limit. Or how there's no way to change text size in SMS. Or that the default Marketplace is rather unwelcoming and harder to navigate. And many more. But these minor bugs and inconveniences all become irrelevant when you look at the big picture. Windows Phone 7.5 is a brilliant mobile OS. You might call it the smartphone OS for newbies. I'm guessing the reason why it hasn't attracted that many people yet is the lack of quality phones. We haven't seen anything that is so stylish, so cool that can actually compete with the annual iPhone and monthly Androids. Until now.I'm definitely getting a Lumia 900 when it comes out in a few months (though I'll miss the curved glass). Good job Nokia and Microsoft. You've won me over.Update: I forgot to mention that the 800 has battery issues (doesn't last very long). I hear that there's a new update out that has fixed this problem, but I'm still waiting for them to push it out to my phone. Will confirm when I get it.

5Great on AT&T but cant send pictures
By MikeR
******EDIT*****Last week i noticed on my phone that there was a question mark inside the battery symbol. The phone would not charge and i could not tell how much battery i had left. I looked this up and it has happened on many different devices. They say to take the battery out and reset the phone, and see if that works, but the nokia battery is unremovable. I will have to send this one back ='(......This phone is absolutely amazing and im using it on at&t. This phone is unlocked but you need to go to wireless settings and go to edit apn and add "wap.cingular" to make it work with 3g/4g (hspa+) on at&t. The only problem i am having is that i cant sent pictures if i figure out that, if its even possible, then this phone is perfect. The screen is small but it looks amazing and all the nokia extras like nokia drive(navigation) and nokia music make this a great deal. Just pricey at the moment but totally worth it for me.******Here is the fix for not being able to send MMS on AT&T:connect to wifiYou need to go here:[...]The first post right at the top has a link that says "Zune Link", you must click on that link on your Lumia 800, it brings you into the app store and lets you download the Nokia Network fix.I used it on my Lumia 800 and it works perfectly, it detected my carrier (AT&T) and then I was able to send MMS messages and connect to the network.

3OK basic phone - useless manual
By MichaelAngelo
The phone has some exceptional multimedia features for a basic phone buta micro sd card is required to use most of the multimedia features.Volume seems OK. Battery life is better than average. The challenge withthis phone is the lack of instructions on setting up and using it. There is aninteractive guide on at least one of the amazon pages for a similar model butthe guide has had technical issues and at the time of this review has vanishedfrom the page I had saved in my wish list. Hopefully someone may find the followinguser guide helpful.Using the BLU Jenny T172iImportant buttons: center input button with left, right, up, down scrolling. soft keys - are above the answer and end call keys.Turn on/off: press and hold the end call key - release when on or off.Menu: shortcut press left soft key.Phone book: shortcut press right soft key.Flashlight on/off: shortcut press and hold center input button - release when on or off.Change language: press left soft key - scroll down to settings (wrench symbol) - scroll down to option 4 phone settings (Spanish/Portugues Configuracion del telefono) - scroll to option 2 language (Spanish/Portugues Idiorna) press center input button - scroll to English - Press center input button or OK.Speaker phone : press right soft key on - press right soft key again off.Vibrate on/off: press and hold # key (lower right corner).Lock keys: at home screen press and release center input button - then quickly press * key (lower left corner) a key symbol appears on screen. 4Terrible instruction manual
By B. Turner
The phone is quite small. The Blu Tank is a little thicker and has longer battery life. The "instructions," in addition to being little more than a summary of the phone's menus, is written with many grammar, stylistic, and usage problems. Easier to search online for a Blu Jenny manual. Same lack of information, but with larger type. If you are technologically feeble or logically impaired, or simply desire detailed instructions, avoid Blu bar phones.First omission: How do you get into the thing to install the battery? At the bottom edge, there is a tiny groove into which you can stick a strong fingernail to pop the back of the case off. If the color of the stripe around the edges of the phone is black, this is hard to spot. While it is open, you can see where the SIM cards go. Just position one or both and slide them or it in. The tiny SD card is also easy to install if you know the top secret that is not included in the instructions. Facing the exposed innards of the phone with the camera lens at the top, there is a little square frame at the bottom left that will hold the SD card. Position that strong fingernail into the vertical slot in the frame, and slide the frame to the right about 1/16 of an inch. Use the same tool to raise the frame on its hinges. Install the cardlet and close the frame, sliding the the top back to the left. Adding the card will enable many of the features of the phone. You can set the camera resolution higher, load the card with MP3 files in a folder called "MY MUSIC" and load additional MP3 ringtones.I am amazed at the good quality of the FM radio.I bought the phone to use in Costa Rica. It is easy to purchase a SIM there to use in this unlocked Quad-Band phone. I can't tell how it works as a phone yet, since I am still in the US.I regret the absence of a headphone plug, but we will be traveling with other devices to meet that need. The absence of a manual is not all that bad. I just spent about 30 minutes exploring the Menu and found most everything needed. You can even find out how to lock the keypad: Press the center of the big square button, followed immediately by pressing the asterisk. Unlock it by the same procedure. The operating system has one nasty quirk. When you change a setting in one of the menus, sometimes you are given an option to "save", or a "done", or an "OK". There is no consistency. Just make sure you do something to save your change, or it will be lost. When I get a Kolbi/ICE SIM into this little red wonder, I will update.

5Excellent Business & Entertainment Phone
By Diego Vega Aguirre
I have been using this phone for about six weeks by now. Before I got the HTC Surround I used Apple's iPhone 3GS, and HTC Touch Pro. I will review not just the phone, because I think the OS is also very important when talking about HTC Surround.Dimensions and CharacteristicsI think the screen size is the same of iPhone's 3G or 4G. Talking about image quality, I can't find any differences between them, of course there might be some technical differences but I am not able to notice them with my eyes :).The phone size is very similar to the iPhone; HTC Surround is a little bigger because of the speaker, but I would say there is no size difference. The built in camera is good and you have a good flash light also which is nice to have when taking pictures in dark ambience.User InterfaceMicrosoft has done a great job redesigning the screens in WP7 with "Metro". You will see that the icons (which are called tiles) in the main screen are "alive" and are not static icons like the iPhone. The tiles gives you information about your contacts (updates from Windows Live, Facebook, My Space, Messenger), some applications are using live tiles like Weather channel, so you don't have to enter the app or contacts to see the information. I think the "live tiles" will be very popular in the near future, because they can give you the information you need without wasting any time opening the application unless you need more info from it. Also live tiles make the main screen more attractive... I like them.Zune vs. iTunesAfter using iTunes for several years, I just realized that if you don't have an Apple's computer, then you will have some troubles using iTunes (at least that's my experience). I have to say that I like Zune much more than I like iTunes. Zune is all about multimedia, the UI is really nice, full of watermarks which change depending of what you are viewing and that makes you enjoy using the software, the opposite feeling when I use iTunes which I consider boring and I use it because I have to in order to synchronize my iPod.TouchscreenI think HTC's touchscreen responds better than iPhone's 3GS or 4G. The screen responds incredible fast (compared to iPhone) and touch is very accurate (much better than I got in Touch Pro... I can't even compare them!)Marketplace vs. AppstoreIn Ecuador the items you can purchase from Appstore is very limited due copyright terms, but in US you will find a lot of more applications in Appstore than Marketplace, even though Microsoft is doing a great job with developers, but there is a long way to go. I would really like to have applications in Marketplace like Whatsapp, Waze, Google Maps and Skype (which has been announced to be delivered in fall this year). If you think the applications are something really important when you have to pick your phone, then I recommend that you look at Zune or Marketplace if those applications you really like are available for WP7. If the application is not in available, then you can check at developer's forums if there are any plans to develop the software.KeyboardIf you are used to type using a built-in keyboard (like Blackberry 9300 or similar), then you will have some troubles while you get used to type on the screen. iPhone's and HTC's keyboard work pretty much the same, both respond fast and the size of the letters are good enough to type without making many mistakes. You can turn on the grammar checker that help you to correct misspelled words (only English), since 99% of the time I write in Spanish I have turned off that option so I cannot tell you if it is good or not.Office HubI expected more from WP7 Office hub. The office applications are extremely basic and I still don't know how to synchronize documents from the phone to the PC, or transfer files from the PC to the Phone. Microsoft has announced that Office Hub will be much better with the next upgrade (codename Mango)ConclusionIn conclusion, I am not an expert about phones; but I have used several models and OS and I really like this phone. Of course there are things to be done before it reaches the level of Android or iOS, but Microsoft is doing a great job with Phone manufacturers like HTC.PS: Last week I got the "NoDo" update, and now I am able to copy/paste information.--- Update: nov 6 2011 ---Many things have changed in the OS since my original review with Mango update (WP7.5) which was delivered last month. Live tiles as expected are more useful today, now you can create groups of your contacts and pin the group to the home screen. Since you can link information from Messenger, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter of your contacts, live tiles will tell you if anyone of your contacts in the group has shared something in any of those networks and you can make any comment or share anything you want without using any app, because everything is integrated in the OS.In the Message Hub now you can send messages not only using the regular SMS, you can send messages to your contacts in Messenger and Facebook Chat. The phone will let you know if the contact you are writing to is connected to one of those two networks (or both), otherwise it will suggest sending a regular SMS.Now I have Whatsapp and soon will have Skype. Waze and Google Maps still missing but I hope sooner than later they will be available. There are many changes in the phone with the upgrade of the "new" OS (WP7.5) and I don't want to make this review longer than it is already, I am really happy with this phone and I don't find any reason to go back to iPhone or change to Android.

5Great Windows Phone
By Victor
The phone is quick and extremely responsive. Reception is clean and clear, the video is sharp and smooth, Setup was a breeze and once I connected to my network surfing was enjoyable, web pages were quick and smooth. I would recommend the phone to all my friends. I have two problems:i. The company advertise the phone as UNLOCKED and it was not.2. The battery life with all the features turned on can be less than a day.The new windows interface takes some getting use to but it is very quick and stable. It has not crashed as yet and everything works.A great phone

5excellent
By Debbie
I got this phone for my son, he loves it. It does everything he wants it to do. Easy to use, great keyboard for texting although he likes to use touch screen for texting most of the time. Would recommend this phone for anyone.

5Replacement phone
By Jim
This phone was purchased to replace one just like it. We like all the features on it, without being a smartphone. I HATE PAYING DATA!

3Decent for the money
By Maria
When I first got this phone, I was so upset with how unresponsive the screen was what with it being a new phone and whatnot. After I gave it a couple of days it grew on me. Just remember you get what you pay for. In my opinion, the sliding keyboard is much more effective then the touchscreen. The touchscreen only offers the numbered keypad for texting and then there's the slide out keypad that's not too bad. I definitely like the conversation back and forth instead of the phone having an inbox separate from the outbox. I don't feel like I wasted my money on this phone anymore since I gave it a chance. As I said before, you get what you pay for.

By Rafael Mauricio Roitman B
I received this cell about one week ago , and it has been working without any fault. For those who want a cell with the basics features like internet, 3G and one of the last android software , as the really inexpensive price this is the one I recommend.

5Good phone to have
By andrew ngo
1. The real phone model is x10i (which I guess "i" stand for "international" version)2. After received, I install Sony Erricson PC Companion Software which will allow me to upgrade to Android 2.1 update 13. Phone look nice, compact (compare to other phone same class); however the back cover made of plastic, which makes it look cheap!!!.4. Screen protector also included (even x10i screen is anti-scratch)5. Phone works as I expected, pretty big screen, vivid color. 8.1M camera with smile detection, and other features seem nice to have.6. Take me a while to familiar with phone behavior, but once I get used to it, I like it.7. Virtual keyboard is nice in landscape mode, but difficult to use in portrait mode.8. If turn on WiFi, battery will be drained for a day, (but the same for Droid 2, Droid X). Turn off Wifi, it may last for 2 days. Set screen brightness to lowest level may extent more, and you can adjust its brightness by using widgets short cut.9. So far, I will happy with this phone!10. Without warranty, it might be potential problem!!!Update on 06/16/11:- Phone is still working :).- Another firmware update couple months ago which allow to do "multitouch" feature on X10i now. I think it is a big reason many guys don't want to buy X10 before.- Camera doesn't have flash (but a small LED), that will make you disappointed in dark place.

5Execellent phone..
By Hitman
I've heard about a lot of problem, but new firmware updated fixed them all.- Battery problem with OS 1.6 --> Please update to the latest firmware, everything will be fixed. Additional option: go to Ebay and buy couple more batteries for back-up which costs me $10 (which can't be done with Iphone)- My suggestion, go with OS 2.1, all inconveniences have been fixed, additional great features have been added, phone runs faster.Pros:- Large & beautiful big screen.- Fast processor, great speaker.- Very good camera & HD movie recorder.- Sensitive touch screen.- 3D games are awesomeCons:- In-call volume is a little bit low- I am having about 5% call dropped
