This was a gift for my husband who does not want to text, but simply receive and make calls. This is his third razr phone and he loves it. It's lightweight and thin and not cumbersome in your pocket. Great phone for the money.

I was surprised to notice that I still need to have the phone restored before using it. I paid 70 $ to have it restored or ''unlocked'' ( according to the specialist words). The battery is not good, I need to charge twice a day even though I have not used it. I would not recommend anybody to buy it.

Hung out to dry--rapid depreciation

Apple has a very profitable business model. They create quickly evolving planned-obsolescence-based products on a locked proprietary technology. Case in point, iphone 3GS released in 2008, now many years old and still being shipped as a "new" product at amazon five years later. If all you want to do is make phone calls, ok. But most people pay the hundreds of extra dollars for the icing on the cake, all those fancy apps available only at the Apple store and installable only with the free itunes program.Well, I just happen to have one of them and it is next to useless compared to a current model device because three-quarters of the apps for it give an error message saying that the app is incompatible with my IOS. How did this happen? When new models come out they have a new IOS and developers write code for the new IOS, not the old one when they fix bugs and plan a new release. Well, so what, I already have the app I want and it works fine, right?Way too often the answer is Wrong, How does this happen? Your computer has to be "authorized" and if anything happens to the authorized computer in the meantime, like you get a new one or whatever, you can't make changes to the iphone anymore unless you authorize the new one thereby wiping the iphone clean of its working apps. So you bite the bullet and download a fresh copy of your growing list of favorite apps. Getting the idea--most of them are not the same any more, they are newer, "improved" versions that don't work on your IOS anymore. That wouldn't be so bad if Apple was willing to supply archive copies of the versions you need, but they don't. Even if your IOS is "up-to-date" because the definition of up-to-date depends on your model and you have a five-year-old legacy model now even if you bought it yesterday.How do I know, I just went through this scenario and of the apps I downloaded and expected to work, over fifty of them were not backwards compatible.I am not talking about games or "fun" apps, I am talking hard core business essential apps, anything from Google, Adobe, Microsoft, IBM, etc that I tried failed, not even access to PayPal. Can you live without Skype, Line2, PayPal, iBooks, Kindle, Nook, Adobe Reader, Audiobooks, Evernote, SameTime, RedLaser, the White Pages, ebay, amazon, wikipanion, Merriam Websters, OneNote, Yelp, Urbanspoon, VPN, LogMeIn, Google Chrome, Earth, Maps, Search, and GoogleVoice; DropBox, Palringo, fring, imDB, OpusDomini, Apzilla or MyEyesOnly, in short, almost any blue-chip five-star app worth having. Don't buy a "new" iphone 3GS if you need any of these, because none of them will work with the most current IOS for that model.Apple's business model may be good for Apple, but is planned obsolescence best for you?Unless you are in the unique position of being an Apple developer with insider knowledge and special tools, you will inevitably notice an obsolescence creep with handheld Touch gizmos from Apple unless they undergo a drastic change of policy. What you buy today will become crippled tomorrow at a rate you will probably not appreciate.

BEWARE OF THIS SELLER!!!!

This is a T.Mobile branded phone. That is not said in the description and it is extremely relevant. Would not have purchased it had it been described as a T.Mobile unlocked phone. The problem is that 3G does not work on other networks (it's not "unlocked" if you need to use 3G network). And in some countries, like Japan or China, you can only use a BlackBerry on a 3G network. I learned this the hard way. Thanks to this misleading seller. What a horrible shopping experience. On top of it, the seller responded that I should have checked the comments from other customers before buying. Unbelievable. If the seller new it was a relevant information, why did the seller not amend it's description?

It would have been nice to know that the unlocked phone was branded as T Mobile. Any other branded phone would have worked for me, but not T Mobile, as is NOT compatible with 3G service in the network I am using.

It was really the worst item I bought ever :(

First of all, they wrote ( Like NEW ) and it never was at all. Second, when I got it, it was scratch all over the phone but i accepted it. Third, I just used it for only one month then suddenly the screen not working at all. I took it to two different places to fix the screen or replace it, the first one asked for $160 and the second one asked for $100. Then they told me that the phone opened before and the speaker has been changed with another old one. When I contacted with the seller he said that it was over 40 days and he will never accept to returned back again. I paid almost $400 for an old and opened phone then I'm gonna pay additional $100 to fix it!! This is so unfair. So, please if any one read this DON'T EVER BUY FROM THIS SILLER AT ALL!!

Great phone, but... The description said that works in HSDPA 1900 band, that is not true, so if you intended to use it in 3G band with: AT&T, Bell Mobility, Telcel, Telus, Rogers, Telstra, Telecom NZ, Vodafone AU, NTT DoCoMo , Movistar, Movilnet... ITS NOT GOING TO WORK, only in EDGE or GPRS.. It will work in 3G mode with: T-Mobile, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, WIND Mobile, Mobilicity, Videotron, VTR, Nextel, Optus, Vodafone AU, Vodafone NZ, Orange and Digitel... The description also said: BlackBerry OS 6.0, its imaginary.. It comes with OS 5.0, that's not a big deal I already installed the 6.0 in 30 minutes... They should describe carefuly the 3G thing because there are 2 versions available on Amazon and both are wrong... I bought mine from: UNLOCKED CELLPHONE KINGS...

Buyer beware: No 3G!!

3G does not work on AT&T! I received a T-Mobile branded phone that only supports 2G (EDGE) on the AT&T network. When I asked to replace the phone for one that supports 3G on AT&T, I was told that I should have known in advance whether or not the phone would work on 3G before I bought it, and since I had opened the box to test it, I would not be allowed to return it for a replacement or refund! The description of the phone states that the supported HSPDA (3G) networks are 850, 1900, and 2100 (AT&T uses 1900, T-Mobile 2100), so a reasonable inference would be that 3G will work with AT&T, but it doesn't. It doesn't because when either AT&T or T-Mobile brand their phones, they disable 3G capability if the phone is used with the other carrier. The sellers of unlocked 3G phones should be required to disclose who's branded phone they are selling, so that the customer can make an informed choice. Because they aren't required to do so and don't, I was sold a product that does not perform as advertised. Buyer beware!

Problematic Supplier

Ok. so the supplier was prompt and courteous but the issues avoidable. I paid for two day shipping as i was due to travel the phone arrived after i left and only after i contacted the seller. Upon arrival and opening the box i got a used phone with scratches on the face plate, the wrong charger, the back plate is replaced with a cheap cover from another supplier. Upon opening to insert the battery the inside is dirty and has a green dust on the phone and there is no memory card. So decided to return only to realize i will now lose 15% restocking fee plus shipping ($81 or 18% cost of phone). Worst yet the supplier writes me to remove the bad review on the shipping problems as its bad for business. If the business was good i will not have an issue. Anyway the Torch is a great phone this is the third i am buying, the first from this supplier. Will never buy from here again.

Intelligent design

Blackberries may no longer be the top 'smart phones' because they don't do everything well but for what I consider their 'core' features - email and phone, in that order - they are still up there at the top. And the Torch is the current top Blackberry at the time I'm writing this. As a 'business phone', it combines the best features of 'traditional' blackberries with the best a highly graphical, 'touch' interface can provide. For a 'phone and entertainment' device, there may be better alternatives.My review is not going to discuss the Torch long list of features and capabilities. They are all listed at RIM's and 100 other different sites. I will only talk about why I currently prefer the Torch vs. anything else as a 'business' phone even now when my employer would allow me to use other brands if I wanted to.THE TORCH ADVANTAGE- Physical keyboard - The most visible Torch feature is the sliding keyboard. This allows for a larger display when compared to, let's say, the Bold, without resulting into a larger phone. The illuminated keyboard seems to be the exact same size of a Bold's, only it becomes available when needed. This is not the only phone with a sliding keyboard but this is probably the best engineered one. Sliding the keyboard in and out is quick, near-effortless and it quickly becomes second nature.- Touch screen - Not the first Blackberry with the feature but this seems to be the best on a BB so far. Yes, it's not as good as iPhone's but, for what I'm using it, it's just right. There is an on-screen keyboard which adapts itself to portrait/landscape but that's the least advantage the touch screen offers. The new Blackberry OS allows me to 'touch' just about anything on the screen and trigger... something. Gestures are also supported including 'pinch-zoom' in and out. And, related...- Buttons - Maybe this should have been at the top of the list. This Blackberry does not force me to do everything by touching the screen. Just about everything can be done by either pushing/clicking a button and controlling the cursor with the little trackpad or by interacting directly with the screen (tap virtual buttons) or a combination. Most of the time it's 'a combination' for me and it's always the way I feel most comfortable about doing things. I appreciate the ability to use physical buttons when I want it.- Email integration - This is a 'soft' feature. The Torch can integrate several email accounts, including the 'enterprise' email into one 'consolidated' mailbox while still giving me the ability to view them separately if I chose to do so.- Wi-Fi - The Wi-Fi ability saves money. My employer encouraged me to pick a plan that charges by the call. Unless it's a VoIP. Therefore, while at home or in the office, the Torch makes calls the Wi-Fi way at no cost to my employer.THE LETDOWNS[Some of the comments below may or may not apply, depending on the carrier you're using. Mine is AT&T.]- The App Store - Not so good, not too many selections and a lot of 'premium' apps doing things that lots of free apps or significantly less expensive apps would do in an Android or Apple environment.- Paid GPS and other services - AT&T would like us to 'subscribe' to the GPS service. GPS does not need 3G or any connection to the phone company to do what GPS does. My in-car GPS takes me from here to there, updates its maps (for free) whenever I connect it to my laptop and it gives me real-time traffic updates. And I don't pay one dime in subscriptions. GPS should be free.- Many More 'premium' Services - I understand that phone companies want to make as much money as they possibly can but competition is tough and I found no incentive to take advance of paid 'radio' or similar offers.- The Battery - Without watching movies, just a little bit of Web browsing and regular phone and mail, the Torch would need daily recharges. It would go for 2-3 days with phone and email (no browsing) only. Love this phone!

So I read a lot of bad reviews before getting this phone and I'm glad i didn't listen. I love this phone so much. I only download the apps that I know I'm going to use. It's a low-end android phone so it should be viewed as such. But here are the things you CAN DO on this phone:*Watch Videos*Surf the web (Bing comes with the phone, i heard some bad reviewers dis-liking this, but all you have to do is download GOOGLE for free. I have both)*take video & pictures & share instantly on facebook/twitter/email*Text*play games*talkCONS*I am a 31 yr old woman and can type on this phone easily. However if you have big fingers/hands, this has a tiny screen and will probably be a problem for you.* I do wish this phone was a little bigger when surfing the net.PROS:Price (free with verizon)touch screen works flawlesslyMany accessories to choose fromAndroid 2.1 network works greatVideo clarityVoice functions (you can tell it to call someone and it has worked perfect everytime.)

Very Marginal Smartphone

I broke my Droid (the original one) and since the phone I wanted to replace it with wasn't going to be available for a month and I needed an interim phone, I purchased this one, as the least expensive smartphone Verizon had available. Wow, I had no idea anyone made smartphones this poorly.Does it "work"? Sure. You can call on it, send and receive emails, take photos, surf the web, download apps. Yes, it works. But compared to my two and a half year old Droid, the screen is tiny, the keyboard fit for only very small hands pecking very carefully, the browser is slow to load, everything is cramped and difficult to read, the sound quality when playing back mp3s or videos is poor (including when listening with headphones), and the operating system is antiquated. It's a little like comparing an Atari videogame from the 1980s to the current state of the art, or using a computer running an ancient operating system.I understand that not everyone needs, or can afford, a top of the line smartphone. However, the additional cost of a phone that's substantially easier to use--larger screen, faster, more up to date software--really isn't that much. So I recommend anyone shopping for a smartphone, even someone who wants something basic, to spend just a little more. It'll be well worth it.

I love my phone. I was sceptical at first, buying a used phone for so cheap... but it works amazing. I haven't had any problems with it and i've had it for a few months now. it's an android phone... so i can dowload all the applications that i want. Best deal i have had in a long time. :)
