5The perfect compact size unlocked cellphone!
By OmLz
I read a couple of reviews from users who mentioned this cellphone "is not unlocked" or "didn't/wouldn't work worldwide".Before I purchased the phone, first thing I did was to check up the technical "specs" on Samsung's website, where I found out this device has a dual band support only: GSM 850 and 1900Mhz, I made sure to go to my available cellphone carries' website and get accurate information whether the phone will work with these networks or not.Item arrived in excellent condition; As published in Amazon it's a brand new unlocked device.I immediately placed an unused/unactivated SIM card from an international phone carrier (Telcel) and it worked at perfection, then I switched to another carrier's SIM card this time Movistar and wow! it worked excellent! Not forget to mention package includes: charger, battery (fully charged) a couple of booklets and some paper stuff. To understand (and maximize) the full functionallity on the phone I highly recommed to read the instructions booklet (owner's manual)... not that complicated to use but has different features compared to those previous devices I've owned. This purchase was a very good deal!

5BEST PHONE THERE IS!!!!!!
By Cooker Jean
In todays world were there is many different phones to choose from and many of those phones have fancy features such as internet and such this phone is a beacon in the darkness. For one i know myself and other get frustrated with the short battery life of phones these days, well as an eye opener this phone holds its charge for a miraculous 4 Days. While there may be no camera this phone is well worth the loss. If you are still determined to have internet on your phone ATT offers a plan for $10 giving you unlimited data, even better than expensive smartphones. This is the phone that you want to have if you are a senior there is nothing complicated about this phone if myself who is a techno dinosaur have figured out how to sent and receive a text message. Overall i wouldn't trade this phone for an iPhone or any other smartphone....ever.

1Obnoxious
By Dorothea Casaubon
Got mine for $15 from AT&T. Truly an obnoxious phone. Not user friendly -- nothing is easy on this phone. Simple functions require many key taps. Menus not intuitive. No way to make ring tone softer or louder. No way to make your callers voice louder or softer. Sound quality isn't good. The little cover to the re-charging receptable is extremely flimsy. I don't text or connect to the internet, so I cannot evaluate those functions. This phone has a gazillion software functions... tip calculator, hold function, etc., etc, but they are very poorly organized and the hardware is crap.

5Great choice for an unlocked Android smartphone
By JGD
At around $250 (update: but the price seems to go up and down), the Sony Xperia Advance is a great value. Why, you might ask, since one can pick up a brand new iPhone 5 for $199 and various other smartphones for next to nothing? The answer -- and the key to appreciating this phone -- is that the Sony is unlocked. That means you aren't buying a subsidized phone that ties you to a two-year wireless contract at premium rates. With an unlocked phone, you can avoid dealing with the major carriers direct. Instead, you can go to one of the companies that resell their services at a huge discount. Expect to pay around $45 a month -- with no extras -- for unlimited talk and text, plus as much data as anyone could be likely to use on a phone without doing much in the way of streaming. Over two years, you stand to save a lot of money by taking the unlocked route. (With this Sony, it's best to go to the AT&T resellers like Straight Talk and Pure Talk. It seems that you only get Edge data speeds if you use it on T-Mobile's network through one of their resellers and it won't even work with a Verizon or Sprint reseller.)The other benefit of an unlocked phone is that you can use it with a local SIM when you travel overseas, or with a global SIM such as those sold by Telestial. If you're sold on the unlocked concept, this is a great price for a pretty nice Android phone. It ships with the Gingerbread version of Android, but you can easily upgrade to Ice Cream Sandwich (not the very latest Android version, but close). To upgrade, you need to connect it to a PC or Mac with Sony's (free) phone utility software. This upgrade method didn't seem intuitive at first, but once I figured that's what I had to do, it was seamless.Sony's marketing makes much of the phone's rugged qualities. It can withstand water and dust in ways that most phones can't (not that I've ever regarded dust as a particular threat to my phones). The screen is claimed to be scratch-proof. And the plastic housing results in less scope for damage if you drop the phone. I haven't tested the limits of the ruggedness, and wouldn't advise doing so, but it's not one of those devices that seems to invite accidental damage. So what's it like to use? With the disclaimer that I've only been using it for a few days, here are my impressions:The screen is no retina display. But it's fine. Cell signal quality is excellent. WiFi reception seems about average. Call quality is good. The speaker is reasonably loud, and when I talk on the speakerphone, people don't complain about how I sound. The camera seems OK, although I haven't used it much yet (and there's no front-facing one for video calls). (Update: It is a bit slow, however.) One welcome feature that isn't mentioned on the Amazon page is a built-in FM radio, which I like to use while running. Battery life has also appeared OK. The back is a little hard to take off and put back on when you need to access the SIM card or SD slot.Despite what you might expect of a phone marketed for its rugged qualities, the Sony Xperia Advance is quite thin and it weighs very little. Although I haven't put side-by-side with an iPhone, I'd say it's no bigger than an iPhone 4s and actually a bit thinner and lighter. The iPhone 4s is a fancier unit in a number of ways, and the iPhone 5 is even more so. But unlocked versions of those units go for about $550 and $650 respectively (the unlocked version of the iPhone 5 hadn't begun to ship in the US when I wrote this review). And with phones that cost that much, you'll probably want to spend an extra $100 for the accidental-damage warranty. So you're paying up to three times as much as you would for this Sony. And an unlocked iPhone isn't ideal on wireless services like Straight Talk -- unless you jailbreak the unit, it's tough to get MMS messaging to work.An obvious alternative to this Sony would be the unlocked Google Nexus 4, which launched at about the same time. That starts at $295, plus you usually have to pay for shipping (you can only buy it from Google direct). The Nexus 4 has a much larger screen than the Sony, which may be a plus or a minus, and has a fancier set of features overall (although it lacks an FM radio). It, too, is an outstanding value. But it is almost certainly less rugged. You'd probably want a case for the Nexus, which you should be able to do without on the Sony (I'm not even aware of a case being available). And, personally, I find buying from Amazon easier than from Google (the latter has an annoyingly unautomated returns system, for example). But either of these phones can make a lot of sense.Although the Xperia Advance was new to the US in the fall of 2012, I gather it's more or less the same as a model that has been sold for a while longer in other parts of the world as the Sony Xperia Go. So if you're checking out other reviews, comments about the Go may also apply to this one.In short, the Sony Xperia Advance is a great buy for someone looking for a very competitively priced, and somewhat rugged, unlocked phone from a first-class manufacturer and running a fairly up-to-date version of Android. It's not such an obvious choice for people who want the coolest or most feature-rich phone, or for people who want a very large screen. It seems to work well for me. I'm not shy of returning electronic items that disappoint. But this one is a keeper.

5Perfect for me!
By George Fargone
My previous phone was an iPhone 3GS which was getting a little slow...The ST27A is snappy! I have found an Android counterpart for all the apps I use and learning the OS was quick. I walk and ride my bike in the rain a lot (Pacific North West) so I love that this phone is water resistant, and manageable in size.It does everything I need: calls, texts, email, online banking and music playing. I know others use their phone for a whole lot more, but I am in front of a computer 12 hours a day so my phone does not have to act as full fledged computer for me.The one down side for me is the smallish battery capacity so I need to charge every other day, or if I use it a lot every day. Reducing the display intensity will add a lot to your talk time! For me the compactness outweighs battery life. The phone even slips into my shirt pocket without sticking out.My carrier is StraightTalk and the Unlimited service works really well with this phone. You need the ST27A (NOT the ST27i) and the AT&T compatible SIM card from StraightTalk make things work together.

4A niche phone? Only if small with good specs has become a niche.
By Rick W
OVERALLI've had the black Xperia Advance for a week and am quite happy with it (it's called the Xperia Go outside the US if you're looking for more reviews). It looks stylish, is light and truly pocket-sized, feels solid and satisfying in the hand, has a great-looking display (despite the relatively low resolution, see below), and sounds good for calls and media. I also like the Sony interface for Android (it's running Ice Cream Sandwich), which I find elegant in a technological way, and smooth. The phone froze once when using the camera, on the first day, but went back to normal after a quick restart and has been fine since. The battery life is great for my (pretty low) intensity of use: it looks like it would last a couple of weeks in standby and about a day with constant use, just like the specs say.NICHEThe niche market for the Advance isn't just people who get wet or dusty a lot, as most reviewers seem to suggest. Sure, the phone's most distinctive feature is its IP67 rating (which means it's sealed against dust and against water up to 3 feet deep for 30 min), but that isn't what drew me to the phone. If you want a small and light smartphone (i.e. 3.5" screen) with a passable camera, up-to-date smarts, and no phone service contract (i.e. it's unlocked), then there are literally only 3 options (a search by specification on a phone review website will confirm this): the iPhone 4S ($550), the Sony Xperia U ($225), and the Sony Xperia Advance ($250). The iPhone is of course the best but costs twice as much. The latter two are nearly identical phones. The only drawbacks of the Advance are its lower screen resolution (see below) and lack of a front-facing camera (so no video calls). On the other hand, the Advance has a memory card slot, is IP67 rated, and records high quality video--unlike the U (see below).STILL PHOTOSAccording to the various websites that do direct comparisons, the 5 megapixel camera on the Advance compares favorably against other midrange smartphones. Here's my experience. 5MP is more than enough for everything but printing enlargements, so the resolution is fine. Sony has opted for minimal noise reduction, so the Advance photos retain fine detail at the expense of some graininess (or a heck of a lot of graininess in low light). I like that choice, because I can always smooth the images afterward in an editor to make them look like what comes out of an HTC One V, for example. Color reproduction is good when the phone gets the white balance right, but that's a mixed bag indoors, as with most digital cameras. Manually selecting an appropriate white balance rather than using the auto setting can often help but limits spontaneity. (And strangely, the camera doesn't understand the effect of its own LED flash on the white balance: my shots with the flash tend to come out yellowy.) The biggest problem with all phone cameras, however (and especially indoors) is their slow focussing: it is literally impossible to snap a picture of my toddler in action in the living room, so don't be fooled by the Sony promo showing a girl snapping a shot of her dog jumping behind the counter. Unless you have blazing studio lighting in your kitchen, that won't happen. Even then you'd have to focus on the counter rather than the dog.So just beware that the Advance, like pretty much all smartphones, isn't quite as good as a middle-of-the-road point-and-shoot camera. On the other hand, when there's good light and predictable white balance, it does take nice photos that will look good on your computer or HD TV.VIDEO CAPTUREThe 720p, 29fps video on the Advance is great, and according to samples and reviews all over the web, it's as good as it gets in smartphones (for 720p). Like the still shots, it's a bit on the grainy side if you're pixel-peeping, because Sony opted for minimal noise reduction, but there's great detail and it's smooth without stutters or much in the way of compression artifacts. The video bitrate is 12 Mbit/s, which I understand to be very high (good) for 720p video. Interestingly, despite having the same camera, the Xperia U produces terrible 720p video owing simply to excessive video compression (maybe intended to compensate for its 4GB storage cap with no memory card slot). The video quality is actually the reason I chose the Advance over the U -- not the IP67. If I'm trying to capture a surprise toddler moment with my Advance, video is the way to go.Interestingly, the video capture on the Advance is better than on my middle-of-the-road point-and-shoot camera (which is a few years old though).SCREENThe Advance touchscreen has 165 pixels per inch, which is low by today's smartphone standards (it's the same as the iPhone 3). The U has 280 ppi and the iPhone 4S has over 300 ppi. The low pixel density is probably the major reason a potential customer might choose not to buy it, and it nearly turned me off. However, when viewed at 1.5 to 2 feet from your face, you literally can't tell the difference; your eyes just don't have the retinal resolution. The extra pixels on the U or iPhone come into play only when you hold the phone around 1 foot from your face. If you want to watch movies (other than YouTube) or browse the web with your phone 1 foot from your face (as many people do), then the extra pixels really will make a big difference. If you aren't going to browse or watch movies, then they're wasted. (Laptops are typically viewed from farther away than phones, so the fancy new MacBook Pro with Retina Display has just 220 ppi.) More important is the contrast ratio and color, and in these regards the Advance screen is great. It's really a pleasure to look at. The bright red, crisp hang-up button in the dialer made me fall in love with my Advance as much as anything else.BODY MATERIALI mention this because before buying my Advance, I saw a couple of reviews that said the unusual plastic material used for the back cover (and sides and 'chin') felt cheap and took a week to get used to, and then I saw another review that said it felt very high-quality and gave good grip even when wet. Well, it's all about expectations and personal taste, and I guess phone reviewers handle dozens of phones that all feel the same. The plastic on the Advance has been described as like very fine grade sandpaper. I think it feels almost exactly like the coarse paper commonly used for printing novels, and I like it a lot. I almost wonder whether the eReader people should get this material from Sony to appeal to nostalgic bibliophiles.I do have to say that the back cover (which simply snaps onto the main body) creaks a bit when I squeeze the sides: it's just the sound of the edges of the back cover moving ever so slightly against the main body. I checked for creaking when I first got the phone because I'd read about it in another review, but it didn't start until day 3 (no idea why -- maybe I just started squeezing it more). The phone feels very solid nonetheless, and the motion causing the creaking is almost microscopic.

1Waste of Money and Time - Shame on OEM Planet
By K. Tabash
LG Quantum C900 Unlocked Phone with Windows 7, QWERTY Keyboard and 5 MP Camera - Unlocked Phone - US Warranty - BlackWhat a dissapointment and a waste of time and money! Phone was locked although it was advertised as an unlocked phone. No success getting any assistance from vendor, OEM Planet! Absolutely no customer service. In addition, they blamed Amazon who in turn blamed OEM Planet for sending a locked phone. No assistance from Amazon either. Got the unlocked code from ATT and the directions did not match the prompt from the LG phone. Instead of asking for the unlock code, I asked for the PUK code. Apparently, if you entered the wrong number 5 times, the phone is permanently locked for ATT. What a shame because although I had the unlocked code, I could not unlock it. Maybe the phone was already returned from another customer and I was given a second hand phone? In any case, I am the victim of fasle advertisement - this phone is NOT unlocked. Shame on Amazon and OEM Planet for providing the wrong item to customers and not resolving this issue in a acceptable manner - apparently, I am not the first one and the product is still in the market. Do yourself a favor, do not purchase from OEM Planet. I would have hoped that Amazon would have done the right thing and investigate other's claims and remove that item from their website. This would have avoided others to have such a bad experience.

4Unlocked - TG
By P. Kelly
I bought this for my wife as a replacement to a troublesome Nokia. I was worried after reading recent reviews about it not being unlocked. Thankfully I had no problem and phone works well on a T-Mobile network. Before using the phone I updated all the software for the phone. This took at least 90 minutes. It updated to Windows 7.5. I had to also install Zune software on my PC in order to update the phone and copy over music and photos. We have T-Mobile and the phone is set up for ATT. It is annoying that the ATT options are still on the menu. Can't get rid of them. I was surprised by the weight of the phone, a lot heavier than an i-phone, but then it cost 75% less.My wife uses the text option the most, so the slide-out keyboard is a very handy option. So far this phone is working great.

4Great phone
By ALBERTO BORBON CASTRO
Moving up from an HTC TyTN II, this Quantum C900 is all I could ask for: thiner, larger, faster, sharper, easier to use and fancier! Just by turning it on I noticed what a big difference it was.The OS is quite friendly and powerful. Company's Exchange Server sync was perfect since the the start. So far I have no complains regarding Windowsphone. I have not updated it to Windowsphone 7.5 yet, but honestly, do not feel the need to do it...although I will certainly upgrade it. There are not as many Apps at Microsoft's Marketplace as Apple has for the iPhones or iPads: theirs have been around longer..but I was able to get most of what I wanted for free. Other bright side: Apps price is quite low compared to what I have paid before for Palm or even Windows Mobile programs. Hopefuly in a few months I will get the Apps I am now missing.Hardware wise the phone seems very well built: it feels heavy and sturdy; also fewer moving parts will probably mean less problems down the road. The only thing I do not like is that the phone is an AT&T unlocked phone, not an LG OEM phone: BIG difference when it comes to support: LG will not handle it and neither will AT&T if you are not with them. The seller probably has a warranty agreement with ONE shop...but that certainly limits your options.Bottom line: Excelent value for money. Would be great if it wasn't an AT&T phone.

VERIZON WIRELESS CELL PHONE MOTOROLA BARRAGE V860 V 860 NO CONTRACT REQUIRED WORKS ON VERIZON WIRELESS

Product Description

To keep the Barrage waterproof, the battery cover uses a locking mechanism at its bottom end. Moto doesn't include a tool in the box, so you'll need a coin or a sharp fingernail to get it off, but it's an easy process. The microSD card slot is located behind the cover (you don't need to remove the battery, too). Normally we'd disapprove of such an arrangement, but we get the need for it on a phone that can go swimming. Indeed, we gave the Barrage a full bath and it kept on ticking.

The menu interface is available in three designs, and each allows for a degree of customization.

The Barrage navigation array is spacious and comfortable. There's a four-way toggle with a central OK button, two soft keys, a clear button, a camera shortcut, and the Talk and End/power keys. All keys are tactile and you can designate shortcuts for the toggle. They keypad buttons are equally satisfying. We could dial and text quickly and we could use the keys by feel. The backlighting is bright and the numbers on the keys are large.

Features
The Barrage has a 1,000-contact phone book with room in each entry for five phone numbers, two e-mail addresses, a street address and notes. You can save contacts to groups and assign them a photo and one of 12 polyphonic ringtones. PTT numbers are stored in a separate phone book; you can assign each contact an alert tone and organize them in groups.

Essential features include text and multimedia messaging, a calculator, a calendar, an alarm clock, a stopwatch, a notepad, and a world clock. You'll also find USB Mass storage, PC syncing, full Bluetooth with object transfer and stereo profiles, GPS with support for VZ Navigator, instant messaging, voice commands, a voice recorder, Web-based POP3 e-mail, and you can use the Barrage as a modem. And as mentioned, you can use Verizon's PTT network.

5Better than expected
By copr165
Sellers sent this quickly and when you order something useful don't know what to expect. Was pleasantly surprised. Phone was in much better shape than I expected and it works great and battery was fully charged. It almost looked unused. For the price was great deal.

5Great Phone at a Great Price
By RMS
This is my first purchase of an item like this; usually just go through the provider. I have to admit some skepticism regarding the purchase but not anymore. The phone works great, looks almost new, and the battery was fully charged when I got it. I can't ask for more than that. The next time someone I know needs a phone I will definitely recommend this seller

4Pretty, pretty, pretty good.
By G. Rathbone
Previously I've owned a HTC G1 and a Samsung Nexus S.In my opinion the OS is pretty good. It definitely feels better than Android, at least initially. After you setup your accounts and get whatever apps you need, it feels pretty good to use. The internet browser is pretty solid, and there is a decent reddit app available. I especially like the automatic photo sync that happens with SkyDrive. So I'll be out taking pictures, and the photos will automatically get uploaded to my PC. I like not having to bother with cables anymore. One thing I don't like is there is no built in turn by turn directions. You may have to buy an app for that if this is a must have feature for you :-/As for hardware, this device feels very solid. One complaint I have is the unlock button at the top could be easier to press. The screen is bright and vibrant and the glass of the screen feels great. The resolution of the screen seems very high, I can't see any pixels!I think WP8, android, and iOS all accomplish more or less the same thing nowadays. So if you like the style of this OS, I can easily recommend this phone.

5I love my 8X!!!
By heathbc888
I was a faithful Blackberry user (and I still admit it) for a long time because productivity is super-important to me. Despite this, all the nice new devices kept tempting me, so I tried the iPhone 4S but took it back after 30 minutes when it choked on Exchange sync. Next I tried the Galaxy SII and I kept that for a whole weekend, but took it back when I got frustrated with not being able to move between apps easily. I just don't have time to peck into and out of apps like that. I was waiting for the SIII to come out as I thought that might be an improvement, but bought an HTC Trophy to test out Windows Phone 7.5 in the meantime, and I was immediately hooked due to how WP syncs my Exchange folders so effortlessly. I was able to move emails around on my phone and those moves would replicate on my work and home computers immediately. This saved me a good four hours per month in email processing, and was surprisingly far more powerful than a Blackberry in this regard. I didn't bother with the SIII and eagerly awaited the WP8 on Verizon as I enjoyed my Trophy.I was able to test out both the HTC 8X and the Lumia 822 in-store. The 8X is incredibly slim and it just looks beautiful, but the screen was slightly larger than I wanted so was seriously considering the Lumia. Then I took a photo of my kids with both devices while I was inside the store and with no flash. Honestly, the 8X photo and screen just blew the Lumia away. I pre-ordered the 8X then and there. I've now had the device for a little less than a week and I absolutely, 100% LOVE THIS PHONE!!! I got a silicon case when I bought it, but the phone itself is just so beautifully designed that I tossed the case after a couple of days. I love to just look at this device and its gorgeous screen. The screen is fantastic - you can't see pixels at all and the glass feels frictionless. I put a screen protector on though, and there was absolutely no loss in accuracy (my Trophy suffered a little and my daughter's LG Android doesn't do well with a screen protector at all). WP8 ROCKS. Live Tiles bring all my data to the surface on one screen, and People Hub sucks all my social media updates and organizes them the way *I* want them (no more facebook timeline - yay!). And really, that's the whole point. I don't have to go digging into apps - it's all right there. It's SOOOO much more efficient than Android or iOS. I can have seven apps open at a time and nine browser windows (maybe more, I haven't tried). That's real processing power in your hands.Skydrive effortlessly keeps all changes between my WP8, work and home computers sync'd, so I'm never without my current data. Switching from my Trophy to my 8X was simply a matter of logging into my new device - everything was there within minutes. I have plenty of excellent games to choose from. The device has a 'Kid's Corner', which means I can put all the games/apps/files I want into that location and keep their sticky fingers away from accidentally emailing or calling my business contacts. So useful! The phone is 4GLTE - blazing fast. I download 3M files in moments. No waiting for mobile web pages at all, and even slow/heavy graphics sites load within a second or two. There are many more features but I'll end by saying that this is hands down the most powerful productivity device I've seen yet, it's totally fun to use, and it's just beautiful to look at. I have the blue one, and after me waxing lyrical about it for three days, my wife is now getting the red one. I highly, highly recommend this phone :)

5favorite
By saskia
I had this phone on the cricket network (when I was in SLC). All I can say is, I loved this phone. It's the best phone I've ever had.1. QWERTY keyboard, so convenient! The buttons were a bit small, occasionally I'd make typos, but sooooo much easier to use compared to ABC number pads. I could also easily type in another language besides English, so convenient.2. This phone lets you connect to facebook or twitter at a push of a button.3. It has a music player, with a regular head phone jack.Basically, this phone is great for texters (which is why it's called "chat" :P) and it's basically my mp3 player and phone in one device. Very convenient for on the bus, for example. My texting also went through the roof so maybe get an unlimited text plan. XD

5good dual sim phone
By Robert Whichard
Phone is good. When you first get the phone the SIM ports are in some type of sleep mode. You pretty much have to make sure your sim card you install is activated before installing it.
