5Hey Kelly! IT WORKS!!
By C. S. Merritt
I went online looking for the simplest and smallest cell phone I could find and that search lead me to the Burg MMX. I've had an Android for a few years and while my Droid is all that and a bag of chips, the fact is I only use my phone (to actually make phone calls) a few times a month. Everything else I can do with one of several computers. I really don't need to know what my old long-lost-never-really-knew-them-or-they-wouldn't-have-gotten-lost high school friends had for lunch via Facebook updates while I'm running errands. Or ever, for that matter. In any event, I just wanted a cell phone. Ya know ... to make and/or receive phone calls. And this little gem does the trick. In addition to wanting just a simple phone, I've also been looking for a way to cut the old cell phone contract cord. I wasn't interested in signing up for yet another 2-year contract just to get a new phone. So I decided to try out a pay-as-you-go service plan. The Burg MMX comes unlocked (it's not tied to a particular cell phone carrier). You need to buy a SIM card and a service plan (with a service provider that supports GSM-based phones - they use SIM cards). I believe, in the USA at least, that means AT&T Wireless or T-Mobile; though there are other service providers that operate off of those networks. I found PrePaidReviews.com to have some pretty helpful info. After doing some more searching, I decided to go with AT&T Wireless, in part because I could pick up an unactivated AT&T SIM card for just a couple of bucks here on Amazon AT&T 3G SIM Card - Unactivated.Note: Somewhere along with way, you may hear that the Burg MMX doesn't work with 3G Sims. Mine does.So I bought the phone. Then I bought the SIM card. Then I called AT&T Wireless customer service and after a few minutes got connected to a very nice operator who helped me get a new phone number assigned and the SIM card activated. You can do this online with AT&T (and the other providers), if you'd rather do it that way. But I wanted to work with someone on the inside to make sure I got it right.Note: The AT&T operator was surprised that I'd gotten the SIM card via Amazon. It wasn't a big deal technically (to activate the phone), but I think AT&T customer service reps are generally under the impression that you can only get the SIM card (and service plan) through them. The operator I spoke with was very helpful. She actually had to call another automated line to help get all the details set up correctly. It was actually kind of funny to hear an AT&T operator interacting with an automated AT&T system (and get just as annoyed at having to deal with it) just like us wee customers do. My hats off to her for putting up with it in order to help me out. I'm sure she could have simply given me a phone number to call and left it at that. The nice thing about prepaid is that you're not tied to a contract. If you don't like the service for whatever reason, you just don't buy any more minutes other that what you initially purchase (once paid for, there's no refund for purchased minutes). Each service provider has different plans available. AT&T has several. I went with A&T's "$2 Daily Unlimited Plan" and purchased the lowest amount I could ($15) just to make sure everything works. And ...Hey Kelly! it WORKS!! :-DNow I just need a trench coat to complete my new Dick Tracy outfit.Important Note: When activating a new SIM card, in addition to the SIM Card number (starts with "89"), you'll also need the cell phone's IMEI number. While there are several ways to retrieve that info for most phones, the easiest way to get the IMEI for the Burg MMX is to find it on the label on the retail package the phone comes in. My Burg's IMEI number was 17 digits long. In the US, they only use the first 15 digits of that number.

5burg watch phone
By j in NC
Basic watch phone, no frills, works well, no bluetooth or e-mail etc though, just voice through the internal speaker/mic or wired headset.AT&T - T-MOBILE works with an EBAY 3G card regardless of what others say.I used an Ebay pre-paid AT&T sim card.Touch on the large side 50mm x 17.5mm but very light.Shiny painted plastic.Recommended ............ oh yes. but available cheaper if you look around.

3It served its purpose
By Lady Timedramon
I purchased this for my 81 year old father who suddenly lost his sight. He was in a nursing home recovering from a stroke. Because he couldn't see a phone to dial it, and because I was afraid he'd lose his cell phone, I ordered this for him.First of all, I ordered white, they sent black. I didn't really care in the end. Dad still couldn't see the buttons.Installing the sim card is simple. Just remember to charge the phone and turn it on afterwards. However, this phone pretty much needed to be charged every day/every other day.Since my father couldn't see, I preprogrammed the phone with his number. The steps weren't that easy at first. When you're trying to set the program, you have to hold the call button till the light turns yellow. It generally just flashes yellow once and goes white.I put velcro on the important buttons for my father to find them. Some of the buttons weren't raised up as high as others, making them harder to find. I specifically ordered this model (apparently an older model) because the buttons looked easier to find. This phone could use bluetooth. The sound isn't that great, sometimes staticky, and frequently breaks up on both ends. The earbud set they gave really is impractical - a person isn't going to walk around with a wire attaching their ear to their wrist. The phone served its purpose. Now that dad is out of the nursing home I'll probably go back to his old cell phone. I probably wouldn't buy this model again.
